Shake Shack Lands in the Six

Momofuku Daisho welcomed Shake Shack today to a sold-out crowd. This is the first time they have sold their world-renowned burgers in Canada.

Shake Shack was born in New York in 2004 and takes inspiration from the burgers carts of the 1950's. It started as a passion project to help revitalize Madison Square Park. Taking burgers to the gourmet level, they soon added beer and wine pairings to their all-American burgers.

"The lines, they were so large. We were not expecting it, but it soon became legendary," said Mark Rosati, Culinary Director at Shake Shack. "We heard all these stories about how people met their husband and wives in that line, and now we're catering their wedding."

The pop-up shop at Momofuku was a long-time coming. They have worked with Momofuku in New York in 2014, when Chef David Chang made a 10 year anniversary burger for Shake Shack.

"We've always wanted to do something cool in Toronto,"  explained Rosati. "You guys have such a great dining scene."

That being said, Shake Shack has no immediate plans to open a location in Toronto, although they are seriously considering coming back for another pop-up. This is with good reason, today the pop-up completely sold out by 4:30, 2 hours before their planned closure.

The crowds were served the Shake Shack classics: ShackBurgers made with 100 per cent Angus beef topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce, with crinkle cut fries. The burgers were paired with Steam Whistle brews and wine from Norman Hardie Winery.

Every dollar from the burgers sold today will be donated to the Sick Kids Foundation, contributing to child health research.

"We always want to feed more than just our fans," said Rosati. "We think it is so important to help out a local charity, wherever we do our pop-ups."

Hopefully due to today's success, we'll see more Shake Shack pop-ups in The Six in the near future.
